A Painted Lady on Symphyotrichum novae-angliae 'Primrose Upward'. The warm sunny this week have seen good numbers of butterflies in the garden, after rather a scarcity of them all summer. |
Symphyotrichum 'Little Carlow' - invariably outstanding. |
Colchicum speciosum 'Atrorubens'. The colchicums have avoided being bashed about by the weather in this rather dry and sunny autumn. |
The crinkly segments of the Drakensberg version of Nerine bowdenii are very distinctive. |
Kniphofia 'Cool Knip' |
Roscoea purpurea 'Cinnamon Stick'. This species flowers for a very long time in late summer. |
Small Tortoiseshell on Argyranthemum 'Levada Cream'. |
Billowing masses of Symphyotrichum novae-angliae 'Rosa Sieger': thinning the stems in spring gives them space to develop to maximum effect. |
Red Admiral on 'Rosa Sieger'. |
Your garden still has plenty of colour. I haven't seen a Painted Lady this year up here in North West England but in the Western Highlands on the Isle Of Mull we've seen several Speckled Woods last week.
ReplyDeleteMost of the butterflies are either in hibernation or have past away now as the first frosty nights have arrived to our northern country. However, I still saw one Comma and Small White today. Yours are simply beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMarvelous flowers and such beautiful visitors with wings:)
ReplyDeleteHere in the East of England we have had visits from a wide variety of butterflies this year. Everything from small tortoiseshells to a purple emperor. People have commented about the large numbers of different varieties as last year we had so few. Probably helped by the low rainfall and exceedingly hot sunny days that seemed endless. It's been wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy your blog posts and the beautiful photographs.
Beautiful pictures of lovely beautiful flowers and butterflies! Here in Bergen, Norway, the autumn has taken over the garden. A few roses are still in flower, but now I'm consentrating on next spring. Have a lovely autumn! Best wishes from Anne-Kristin
